SUMMARY:  He had felt like an outsider in his own family his entire life. Now twenty-six—confused and emotionally bankrupt after suffering a childhood fraught with criticism and isolation—Lee leaves his dysfunctional upper-class family to find his true self.

Determined to cultivate a meaningful life, Lee discovers a world poles apart from the one he had left behind and an assortment of unforgettable characters to go with it. But just when things start falling into place, he is made aware of an alarming family secret that causes him to question who he is and where he’s going.

Florence OsmundWhat do you do when the people who had been entrusted with nurturing you during your formative years are the same ones responsible for turning your world upside down?

THE BACK STORY:  I love being challenged, and writing this story from a male’s perspective gave me just that. I knew that males think differently than females, but I didn’t know how, so I read two books in preparation to write Red Clover: Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man by Steve Harvey, and Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus by John Gray. Each helped me (in different ways) to get inside the head of Red Clover’s main character.

WHY THIS TITLE: To explain why I chose the title “Red Clover” would reveal too much about the main character’s family secret and his later choices in life. You’ll just have to read the book to discover what I’m talking about.

WHY SOMEONE WOULD WANT TO READ IT: Red Clover is the story how complicated families can be, and how we often don’t realize until later in life how lies and deceit, love and honesty, listening and ignoring all shape us. Said one reviewer, “It provoked me to look at myself and wonder how I would have handled myself in a similar situation.”

REVIEW COMMENTS:

Windy City Reviews: Florence Osmund has written a wonderfully detailed story about a man overcoming his upbringing and becoming his own man. The finished product, both the man and the story, are exemplary.

Awesome Indies: Florence’s writing lures the reader into its murky depths with a siren song of beautifully engaging prose, fully formed and believable characters, and a twisting plot. She wraps it up in a way akin to the tender loving care of a mother with a new born babe.

AUTHOR PROFILE:  After a long career in the corporate world, Florence Osmund retired to write novels. “I strive to write literary fiction and endeavor to craft stories that challenge readers to survey their own beliefs and values.” She currently lives on a small tranquil lake in northern Illinois, where she continues to write.
